Hima Das - "The girl who made headlines with every race, the girl who got faster with every race."

These days we are usually busy with our jobs, studies, relationships and we think that without money we are nothing and sometimes between these work we forget to follow our passion. Have you ever wondered that there are so many athletes in this world who followed their passion and had very little money but achieved so much and made India proud?

In this blog, I am going to introduce someone really great and encouraging, Hima Das.

Hima Das is the first women athlete who represented India and obtained gold in the running event of the ( International Association of Athletics Federation ) IAAF World U20 Championship held in Tampere, Finland in 2018. She made a record of covering 400m in 51.46 seconds.


She was born in Dhing, Assam on 9th January 2000. Currently, she is 21 years old(In 2021). She is probably nicknamed Dhing Express.

She developed a strong interest in Football in her school time but she switched to sprint running after taking advice from the physical education department in her school. She completed her education and passed 12th grade from Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in 2019.

 She won her first medal when she was 13 years old.

  Achievements:

  • She was awarded the Arjuna Award by the President of India on 25th September 2018.
  • She also appeared in India's famous TV reality show hosted by actor Amitabh Bachan called Kaun Banega Crorepati on 1 November 2019.


Medals won: 
Hima has won 5 gold medals in international events in less than one month. The list of her accomplishments is as follows:

1) On July 2, 2019: She won the 200m race and got the gold medal in Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland; the time she took was 23.65 seconds.

2) On July 7, 2019; She won the 200m race and get the gold medal at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland; the time taken was 23.97 seconds.

3) On July 13, 2019; she won the 200m race and got the gold medal at the Kladno Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic; the time taken was 23.43 seconds.

4) On July 17, 2019; She won the gold medal in the 200m race at Tabor Athletics Meet Czech Republic and the time she took was 23.25 seconds.

5) On 20 July 2019; she won the gold medal in the 400 metres in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic; the time taken was 52.09 seconds

6) Hima has also won a gold medal at the 2018 Jakarta Asian games in Mixed 4×400 m events.

Although Hima's parents were farmers, she didn't give up and followed her dreams and achieved success.
